SAIL supports over 50 programs across Alabama. Since 2013, the programs have enrolled over 21,000 students:

NURTURING THE WHOLE CHILD

SAIL programs have rigorous academics as their foundation, but also offer “summer camp” activities that promote physical and emotional health while building character, all in a safe, supporting environment.  Healthful meals close the summer nutrition gap that many of our children face.

TEACHER GROWTH

SAIL programs provide teachers an opportunity to develop their skills.

• ♦ Teachers receive an average of 23 hours of training and 78 hours of practice in smaller classes that allow innovation and growth. 
• ♦ 97% report positive outcomes for their programs.

FAMILY IMPACT

SAIL programs engage families through regular communication, family activities, and opportunities to volunteer. On average:

• ♦ 65% of families participate in their child’s program
• ♦ 95% report positive outcomes. Families report new confidence in their students’ ability to succeed in  our new learning  environments. 

Children  from under-served communities face many challenges over the summer; many do not eat well, do not exercise, and lack a safe environment that is free from bad influences. Parents consistently cite summer as the most difficult time to ensure that their children have productive things to do.

In SAIL programs:

• ♦  89% of the students are eligible for free or reduced cost lunches
• ♦  SAIL students entered performing well below grade-level:
• → 76% are below grade level in reading
• → 72% are below grade level in math.
